The Mayor's money

You know, I forgot what it was that I wanted to post on this blog today. I think I was going to write something about the race for mayor in the city of Portland.  I confess to being a bit confused. The new city manager was hired at $138,000 a year. This is $20,000 more than what the former city manager was making. The new mayor will receive $66,000 a year. 

 I assumed that under the new system the city manager would have less authority and less to do.  I was mistaken.
Somehow in our budget strapped economy we have found an extra  $86,000 a year.

I'll reserve judgment on this till I see how the new mayor form of government will actually work.  But pardon me if i seem a bit skeptical at this point.
